As a computer science major, one of the suggested requirements to graduate was to get involved in an extra curricular activity on campus. I thought the newspaper would be the place for me - I had always been commended for my writing skills and I had just left my post as head of our rogue high school newspaper.
The conversation with the editor did not go as planned; she was insistent upon needing a photographer and I just wanted to write. I guess I wore her down, she let me submit a story - a humorous tale about the parking situation at school. It had the laughs, tears, and pizazz of an award-winning article. It would change the world! But it never got published. Instead, she handed me a camera and ushered me out the door for my first assignment.
And that's how I became a photographer. I don't have a great story about growing up with a camera in my hand. My life on the newspaper was an anything but a glamorous array of rolled film (yes, I said the f word), developer and deadlines.
Here I am 12 [eek] years later and I can say that this is exactly where I want to be and I shoot fabulous people.
Everything about Autumn & Matt’s wedding day was extraordinary and beautiful at every turn.

So color me puzzled when I didn’t get a bunch of comments on Autumn & Matt’s getting ready post because I’ve been getting emails and requests to “put that wedding up, already!” and then I noticed it was still in draft form this morning. Doh.

Giggly, cute as buttons and full of energy. Jacob is now 4 and Ella is 2.
I get just as excited about wedding projects as my brides. When Lauren let me know she had sent out her Save the Dates I did my happy dance and asked if I could have one too! Here it is, with some careful editing

When I started shooting I encouraged my brides to bring their invitations on the wedding day or to send me a copy ahead of time. For a while, I kept a scrapbook of every invitation along with my favorite image for the wedding. Several weddings later I looked like I was an invitation vendor and I quit collecting!
I’ve had a new resurgence, so my dear brides, send me your wedding invitations! They belong as part of your wedding gallery images! And if I’m not your wedding photographer, slip one into your photographers hands and don’t tell them this was my idea or I’ll get hate mail

I remember how much time I spent making invitations for my wedding so I always ask the bride to have an invitation with her on the wedding day so I can photograph it. My parents had their wedding invite framed as a gift and it hung by our front door forever so I think invitations just have a special place in my heart!

I had custom invitations. I loved them. I had every intention of bringing one on the wedding day, but I forgot.
